A Taste of Opera
On Saturday, March 5, 2011, The New Castle Lyric Opera Board of Directors held their fundraiser "A Taste of Opera" at Gallo's Italian Villa in New Castle. More than 200 guests attended the event which featured a Chinese Auction, door prizes, wine by regional wine makers, and hors d'oeuvres by Gallo's Restaurant. Opera excerpts were performed by nationally known mezzo soprano, Susan Shafer
and other regional singers. All proceeds went to the development of the New Castle Lyric Opera, a non profit organization.
Orchestra Pit Project
The New Castle Lyric Opera plans to improve space and acoustics of the orchestra pit. Scottish Rite Board members are excited about the prospect of having the opera in their house. The Cathedral has its own committee working with the opera company to make things happen. "We support their efforts to try to accomplish it," said past president Kunselman, adding, "The orchestra pit has to be remodeled, and other renovations are needed."
